Amazon Attribution Troubleshooting

If you're experiencing issues with Amazon Attribution, this article will identify some of the most common issues and how to resolve them.

 

Please be aware: Amazon may take up to 48 hours to provide attribution data.  So, a sale from today may not show up for 2 days.

If you are looking for sales from yesterday, it's possible that Amazon has simply not attributed that order yet and it may show up tomorrow.

I Cannot Authorize my Amazon Account

For you to connect your Amazon Store to Wicked Reports, you must first be a Registered Seller Brand Owner who sells in at least one of the following markets:

United States (US), Canada (CA), United Kingdom (UK), Germany (DE), France (FR), Italy (IT) and Spain (ES)

If you are not a registered brand in one of these markets, we won't be able to connect to your store.

You must ALSO have an Amazon Ads Account.  Even if you are not running ads on Amazon, you must have an Amazon Ads account to use Amazon Attribution.

Facebook Ad to Amazon doesn't have tracking

If you selected to have Auto-Tracking when you authorized your Facebook Ad account, we attempt to update your Facebook Ads automatically every hour. 

If you did not select to have Auto-Tracking when you authorized your Facebook Ad account, you will  need to manually add the Facebook Tracking parameters to your Amazon Ads from the Facebook Ads manager.

Even with Facebook Auto-Tracking, there are a few scenarios where Amazon tracking won't be added to your Ads automatically.

1. Your Facebook Ad uses shortened links (i.e. bit.ly).  In this scenario we aren't seeing a URL for "amazon.com".  You will need to update your Ad to no longer use a shortened link.  The tracking should then be added automatically

2. Your using an Ad type which doesn't allow us to determine the URL of the ad.  This is rare, but it does sometimes happen.  In this case, you will need to paste the Facebook Tracking parameters from the Amazon Traffic page into the Tracking -> URL Parameters field in Facebook Ads Manager.  Remove the "?" from the beginning and paste it in.

3. An error occurred when we attempted to update the Facebook Ad.  This is also rare but does happen from time to time.  When in your Facebook Tracking page, if you seen an amazon ad that's missing tracking and you see an error about our inability to update the ad, you will need to paste the Facebook Tracking parameters from the Amazon Traffic page into the Tracking -> URL Parameters field in Facebook Ads Manager.  Remove the "?" from the beginning and paste it in.

I'm not seeing data in the Amazon Reports

The First three things to check are where you are sending your traffic.

1. When you authorize Amazon in your Wicked Reports, you selected the country for which you are wanting to Attribution tracking.  Amazon Attribution will ONLY work for the store you selected in Wicked Reports. 

If you have a US and Canada Store and authorized the US store in Wicked Reports, any traffic to the Canada store will NOT be tracked by Amazon and will not show up in your reports.

2. You MUST have traffic to different stores (i.e. US and CA) run from different campaigns.  If multiple Ads to two (or more) countries are within the same Campaign, one of them will NOT track.  Each store (Country) must have ads running from within their own Campaign.  This is an Amazon tracking requirement.

3. Your traffic MUST be sent to either a Store Page or a Product Detail Page.  Any traffic sent to a Search Result Page will not be tracked and will NOT show up in Wicked Reports.  

My Google Ads don't seem to be showing up

We have updated your Google Ads Account tracking template to include the necessary tracking parameters for Amazon Attribution to work.  If you have a Google Ad that isn't tracking, there are a couple of possibilities.

1. You or some other software has added some form of tracking parameters at the Campaign, Ad Group, Ad, or Landing Page for an Ad.  Any tracking added at these levels will overwrite the Global Account template.  You can either remove the lower level tracking or copy the tracking parameters we've added to your Account level template to the lower level and tracking should begin working.

Every Amazon Attribution tool is given the freedom to use whatever value it would like in the "aa_creativeid" of the Amazon tracking parameters.  If you are using a different tool that auto-created your tracking template already and it DOES NOT have "aa_creativeid={creative}" in the tracking, then Wicked Reports won't be able to read the tracking parameters and report on them correctly.

2. Your Google Ad uses as shortened links (i.e. bit.ly).  In this scenario, the tracking parameters are likely getting stripped from the URL.  You will need to update your Ad to no longer use a shortened link.  

3. You have changed the Amazon URL of your Ad.  Once an Ad has been clicked and the lead has gone to an Amazon page, that Ad CANNOT send traffic to a different URL.  If you want the Ad to go to a new URL, you must create a new Ad. (THIS RULE ALSO APPLIES TO FACEBOOK ADS)

My Ad stopped tracking

For both Facebook and Google Ads, you may have changed the Amazon URL of your Ad.  Amazon requires that once an Ad has been clicked and the lead has gone to an Amazon page, that Ad CANNOT send traffic to a different URL. 

If you want the Facebook or Google Ad to go to a new URL, you must create a new Ad.

 

UTMs in the reports don't match what I expected

 * If your tracking from a Facebook Ad doesn't match what you expect, we are matching up the Campaign Name, Ad Set Name, and Ad Name.  We are not using any other UTMs that may have been added to the links. So, look for the Ads based on the names you use in the Facebook Ad.

 

* If your tracking from a Google Ad doesn't match what you expect, we are matching up the Campaign Name, Ad Group Name and Keyword/Audience.  We are not using any other UTMs that may have been added to the links. So, look for the Ads based on the names you use in the Google Ads.  If you have a tracking Template that doesn't match the provided version we provide, the reporting may use values you don't expect.

If the template doesn't match, you will likely find the CampaignID in the Campaign Name and the Ad GroupID in the Ad Group Name field.

 

* If your tracking from a Email doesn't match what you expect, recall that we are using aa_creativeid parameter in the link to get the UTMs for reporting.  The parameter "aa_creativeid=<source>|<medium>|<campaign>|<content>|<term>" needs to be updated.  Each value needs to be updated to have UTMs you want to report on.  See "How to Setup Amazon Tracking For Wicked Reports" for how to set the values.

 

* If your tracking from a Other link doesn't match what you expect, recall that we are using aa_creativeid parameter in the link to get the UTMs for reporting.  The parameter "aa_creativeid=<source>|<medium>|<campaign>|<content>|<term>" needs to be updated.  Each value needs to be updated to have UTMs you want to report on.  See "How to Setup Amazon Tracking For Wicked Reports" for how to set the values.

 

I don't see my email in the grid reports

We are using the aa_creativeid parameter in the link to get the UTMs for reporting.  The parameter "aa_creativeid=<source>|<medium>|<campaign>|<content>|<term>" needs to be updated to represent an email.  You will want the "source" or the "medium" to have the string email for us to recognize a link as an email.  See "How to Setup Amazon Tracking For Wicked Reports" for how to set the values.

I don't see a social post in my grid reports

We are using the aa_creativeid parameter in the link to get the UTMs for reporting.  The parameter "aa_creativeid=<source>|<medium>|<campaign>|<content>|<term>" needs to be updated to represent an link click that will make sense to you.  Be sure to set up the UTMs you want to report on.  See "How to Setup Amazon Tracking For Wicked Reports" for how to set the values.

My Facebook Ads Costs don't match what I see in the comparison report

The Facebook ads in the Amazon report only reports on Facebook Ads marked as Amazon.  It won't show all of your Facebook Ads costs.

Check that you don't have any Amazon Facebook Ads with errors because if they are missing tracking, they may not get marked as "Amazon Ads".  See earlier troubleshooting item "Facebook Ad to Amazon doesn't have tracking"

My Google Ads Costs don't match what I see in the comparison report

the Google ads in the Amazon report only reports on Google Ads marked as Amazon.  It won't show all of your Google Ads costs.

Be sure to confirm that none of the tracking is getting overwritten by having tracking at a lower level than the account tracking template.  See the earlier troubleshooting item "My Google Ads don't seem to be showing up"

How do I know the sales and revenue are accurate?

We pull the data directly out from Amazon.  Amazon does not give us a breakdown of sales it's attributing, only the sales count and revenue.  Unfortunately, we cannot give you a detailed breakdown of which customers make up those sales.  

The data we pull from Amazon has shown to be accurate, and if you want to perform your own test, you can make a URL to one of your Amazon products using the Amazon tracking parameters.

If you paste the URL into the browser and make a purchase on Amazon tomorrow, there should be a sale reported to those UTMs in your Amazon Reporting.  Please record your screen as you perform this test so the Support team can see that it was performed correctly.

Please Note: Amazon Attribution works ONLY for traffic that is sent directly to your Amazon Store.  It will not allow you to track if leads are simply leaving your store and purchasing your products on Amazon.  You must be tracking clicks in which you are purposely and intentionally sending traffic to your Amazon Store.
