How to Track and Import Costs for AppLovin

This doc explains the correct UTMs for tracking AppLovin clicks, how to import costs, and how to view CAC, ROAS and LTV of AppLovin sales conversions.

General Integration Setup

The AppLovin Wicked Reports integration is a non-native ad platform. This is not a big deal, things still track great, but it does mean that there are some manual steps to follow. However, they are easy and unlock all of Wicked Reports' powerful features if followed.

AppLovin / Wicked Reports beta users are reporting 30% more sales conversions using Wicked Reports tracking.

To insure tracking on AppLovin ad platform performance inside of Wicked Reports, put your tracking code on all destination URLs as usual.  The 2nd step is proper UTMs.  Since AppLovin is a managed service at this time, have their team append all your destination ad URLs with this UTM structure:  utm_source=AppLovin&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign={CAMPAIGN_NAME}&utm_content={AD_NAME}

How to view AppLovin inside of FunnelVision

Choose the Other Channel, and then filter on Source.  Type in "app" and then select applovin.

This will show all tracked AppLovin clicks against your CRM and Sales conversions, and uploaded costs.

How to import AppLovin costs into Wicked Reports

1. Download the AppLovin data per day for these 4 columns:  Date, Campaign, AdName, and Costs

2. Go to Wicked Reports "other cost uploader" and download the CSV template  https://my.wickedreports.com/customroi

3. Replace the header in the AppLovin CSV with the Wicked Reports header columns in the exact order of the CSV template.

4. The AppLovin columns with data in the fields, you need to move them so they line up with the right Wicked CSV template columns:  Date <-> Date, Costs <-> Costs, Campaign <-> Campaign, and then Content <-> Ad Name

5. For the remaining columns paste these value down each row that already has data in the other 4 columns from step 4:

  • Source = AppLovin
  • Medium = PPC
  • Term  (leave empty)
  • WickedSource (leave empty)
  • WickedID (leave empty)

6. Save this CSV

7. Drag the CSV onto the Marketing Cost Uploader screen in the designated area

8. You should receive a message of success quickly.

9. Head over to FunnelVision, filter for AppLovin as instructed above, change the date by 1 day to trigger a reload of your data, and you now have accurate AppLovin attribution data.
