Non-Native Integration Options (Ad Platforms)

How to integrate your Ad Platform to Wicked Reports, when a native integration is not available

Introduction

Wicked Reports allows you to track traffic from virtually any ad platform or traffic source, including non-native platforms like Bing, Taboola, Outbrain, Programmatic ads, and others that support UTM parameters. As long as you can add UTM parameters to the links in your ads and direct that traffic to a landing page tracked by Wicked Reports, we can monitor those clicks and interactions just as we do for any other source.

As a general rule, we cannot track traffic ad platform clicks if UTM parameters cannot be added. This step is essential for linking the traffic to your campaigns in Wicked Reports.

Additionally, here is another thing you need to consider: automatic ROI calculations are not possible for non-native ad platforms due to the lack of direct integrations with these platforms. This means that while we can track your traffic from the UTMs, you'll need to manually import your ad costs to calculate ROI.

How Does It Work?

Once your UTM parameters are in place and traffic is driven to your tracked landing page, Wicked Reports will collect data on clicks, leads, and sales from your campaigns. This works in the same way as it does for other traffic sources, so you can track performance accurately across all platforms. Then, since ROI depends on both tracking clicks/leads/sales and knowing how much you spent on ads, we rely on you to manually provide ad cost data for accurate ROI calculations.

This document will walk you through how to set up your campaigns for UTM tracking and how to manage the manual entry of cost data for ROI calculations.

Steps for a Manual Tracking Setup

To manually track your ads and determine your ROI, you must regularly update and cross-reference your ad costs with the appropriate UTMs in Wicked Reports.

Steps for Manual Tracking:

  1. Setup UTMs on your ads CTA: Wicked Reports will then automatically track the clicks, leads, and sales for your ads, just like it does for other traffic sources.
  2. Manually Add Ad Costs: Enter the cost of your campaigns regularly (ideally daily) to ensure accurate manual tracking. To link costs to the correct ad campaigns, match the UTM parameters used in your ads with their corresponding costs from your ad platform.
  3. Review Your Data: After you've uploaded your cost data, check your account the next day. Search your Ad name in Funnel Vision and ensure costs and clicks are now associated with it.

Example: Tracking Multiple Ads Across Multiple Audiences

Suppose you’re running three ads targeting two different audiences, for a total of six unique UTM sets. For complete ROI reporting, you’ll need to provide cost data for each UTM set on a daily basis. Once that data is uploaded into Wicked Reports, it will allow for precise ROI tracking.

Conclusion

While Wicked Reports can effectively track UTM-based traffic from non-native ad platforms, manual cost data entry is also required to calculate ROI. By regularly providing ad cost data and associating it with the correct UTM parameters, you can ensure accurate tracking and optimize your ad performance. This process allows you to fully leverage Wicked Reports to track the effectiveness of your campaigns, even without native integrations with every ad platform.

FAQ:

  1. Can I track programmatic ads without UTM parameters?
No, UTM parameters are required for Wicked Reports to track traffic from programmatic ads. Since there’s no native integration with these platforms, UTM parameters are the only way to accurately capture traffic data.
